Such a sad poem, Wong describes what it was like growing up Chinese and being constantly surrounded by blonde Amto lerican girls that she viewed as prettier. She further explains how she longs to have their money and nice things and fit in.
I feel like this sort of thing happens so often we have no idea. So many girls want to look like someone else, act like someone else, or be popular. Its very sad to hear about these kinds of things. No girl should have to grow and feel not good enough or not pretty enough. This poem can be compared to today’s teenage girls who feel like they have to look like the Victoria’s Secret models or the girls off television. It’s not practical or realistic. Media needs to use more women of color and ethnicity to model fashions and put on television. The average hundred pound blonde bimbo is not what I want to see, Ill tell you that for sure.
