The Social Construction of Gender: Judith Lorber (1994)

Gender is defined in Merriam-Websters dictionary as the behavioral, cultural, or psychological traits typically associated with one sex. Society has placed this definition on gender. This has brought attention every single day to ones life. Even through the actions that individuals do everyday, they are still based on the judgement of gender. I  personally disagree with the statement in the passage that read “Wherever a task is done by women it is considered easy, and where it is done by men it is considered difficult.” This statement was by a writer going by the name  Mencher in 1988. For someone to truly believe that anything a women does is easy and what men do is difficult is sexist and a judgement on gender. Yes men can do things women sometimes cannot but women can do things that men cannot. The difference in being capable to do certain things is not based on gender it should be based on the individuals capability.
