Cheaper than a Cow / Miranda Kennedy

Kennedy’s article illustrates the sad fact that women trafficking still goes on in other parts of the world. Several families were included in her depiction of this terrible crime. One girl, Kanika, I believe was actually murdered by her “husband” and her murder may never be solved. The fact that the police do almost nothing about this ‘occupation’ of trafficking really blows my mind and the fact that another WOMAN would have the nerve to take young women from their families and homes to a world of rape and abuse really pissed me off despite what her original intentions may have been.
I really enjoyed reading this because afterwords I felt like I need to do something about it. In the states, we need to raise awareness of what is going on and perhaps we could change their opinions that only sons are preferrable so that the purchasing of these poor women may be stopped with more brides available. The end of the article when we hear of Kanika’s mother waiting for her daughter every night I began to cry. I cannot imagine the pain that she must feel. 😥
