Working It // Almodovar

This article discusses one woman’s life as she changes from being a police officer in a corrupt station to a prostitute with intelligence.  Almodovar explains how the corrupt officers would harass the female prostitutes but would ignore the fact that she had been injured by a large man with the intent to hurt her. She also explains how it is, in fact, a chosen profession for some women.

This article changed my views of the “good” actions of the police department. I have heard about corrupt officers before, and that fact was not any worse than some of the things I have seen on television before. However, when she told the story of the fifteen-year-old prostitute would was forced to wet herself because she was not allowed to be taken to the bathroom, I began to wonder what other sorts of decisions are made because they are “good” for the girl or for the safety of the other officers.

For most of my life, I have had the same out look that much of society has now on prostitutes. However, this class and this article have made me realize that some women choose this profession. While it is true that some are forced, there are some who choose it and live free and happy lives as prostitutes and call-girls, and we should accept this and not continually tell these women that they are worth less than the rest of us are.
