Pop Culture Gone Wild- Valenti

“Pop culture is sugar and spice, tits and ass. Sexuality itself seems to be defined as distinctly female in our culture.”

This quote from Valenti’s article described our nation’s culture perfectly in my opinion. Yes, every once in a while you will see a man with his shirt off on the cover of a magazine, but for the most part women are plastered all over every billboard, commerical, and tabloid that is offered to us. It’s sick. Women who get just about naked and lay all over the hood of a car for an automobile commerical are giving the rest of us women a bad name, and making us even more inferior to the men of America. I guess there are two major reasons for this: 1) women think that they are hot, and that they will make money and be noticed by the world if they strip down and do a commercial. Which I guess is true since our society is so misconstrued that this actually works. And 2) MEN are the ones who pay for these images, design the images, and love to LOOK at the images. We as women just allow men to walk all over us even more by having the power to belittle us on TV, in magazines, and on billboards. Really though, what is there to be said since women let this happen? I think that its high time women start using their brains instead of their boobs and make something of themselves instead of taking the easy (pun intended) way out!!
