“Deaths That Cry Out” Valdez

“Between 1993 and 2005, approximately 470 girls and women died violently in Juarez, Mexico- far more than the 379 deaths the Mexican Federal Attorney General reported for that period”. This statement that Valdez writes in his article was very strong and made me stop reading and just think about the amount of power a group can have and what it can do. At first I questioned why the government only reported part of the deaths that happened to these females in Mexico, and then I learned that most of the people that were doing these things were linked to the government. This is a very scary subject because it shows how much bad a situation can go when you have evil and power all wrapped up in one. I can’t believe that this continued to happen for 14 years and the United States could not do one thing about this. Before now I thought that we had the power to stop something if it needed to be stopped, but the US couldn’t help these women at all. Like said in class, reading this makes you feel so powerless and helpless, and it’s hard to change the way you feel about that and finding a way to try and change this.
