Adrienne Rich talks about college students needing to think they are in college to claim their education. I think this is an awesome statement because you should not think that you are in college to recieve like she mentions. I feel like since we are in college for four or five years earning our degree we should call it claiming our education. I really like how she says, “responsibilty to yourself means refusing to let others do your thinking, talking, and naming for you; it means learning to respect and use your own brains and instincts.” I think many people forget today to take things in their own hands and rely more and more on other people. I have worked hard to get my college degree and when I walk across that stage I hope that my family will be as proud of me as I am of myself. I do not know what college student would not be proud of themselves for claming their education and making a name for theirselves. I think professors today should also push us into beliving that we can do anything and that we can make the most of our degrees. Although I have had professors that seem to not care at all about us or what grade we made in our class. It makes it really hard to believe in yourself that you can do much of anything when you have a teacher like that, but that is when you need to take things onto yourself and believe in yourself. You can be anything you want to be and just have to push yourself to get to where you want to be.
