While reading chapter 11 I read the United States inherited the British common law known as the Femme Couverte. The Femme Couverte stated that husband and wife were one person under law and she was his sexual property. So this meant that women were basically not allowed to do anything. For example they weren’t even allowed to discipline their own children, nor have their own money. Also raped was condoned within the marriage. I feel that this law is over the max even if it was in before the 1970s. I feel that with this law, women had no freedom at all. And the fact that they couldn’t even discipline thier own children or control their own reproductive lives is outrageous. Not being able to control ones reproductive lives is basically not being able to control ones own body.
