I liked this article by Lorde. I thought that her idea that all oppression links together is a great point, because it is true. I have never experienced the oppression that Lorde experienced. In my life I have been oppressed against because I am a female, for instance I am weaker or can not do as much as a male. Inside that I am oppressed because I am blonde, so I am a dumb female. I think the idea that they intertwine has proven true in my life. I have not dealt with the severe hatred that Lorde and others have dealt with, because of the times that I live in. But on a lower, less severe level it is true. I cannot imagine dealing with the things that people in her time had to deal with. The word oppressed in 2013 sounds like such a dramatic thing to say, but when Lorde wrote this and was dealing with this oppressed was not even a strong enough description for the pain she dealt with on a daily basis. Being black was bad enough, but being a black lesbian was unacceptable to that society. I am very thankful that times have progressed. I am not naive that oppression doesn’t exist today, but it is no where near what it used to be.
