Marilyn Frye says “We hear that oppressing is oppressive to those who oppress as well as to those they oppress.” I more than agree with this statement. If someone claims to another that they feel opressed, the other person can always return with a comment that “they are more oppressed than I am…” and it seems to be a never-ending cycle. People seem to think that men return with that comment more than women. I for one agree that men want sympathy more than a woman does. I can relate to this because I always try to please society (my family, peers, etc.) before I try pleasing myself. A person could claim to feel more oppressed than I do though because they have no one to impress except their-selves and long to feel valued by others. There are many ways in which one can be oppressed and I do not think that on is more superior than the other. I think its sad that people have to feel like they have to be “perfect” because society has made it that way. Everyone, including myself, should not try to please everyone and do things in a different way then they would like to because they do not want to be judged due to the fact that that’s all that society does.
