Always the Victim, Rarely a Hero

In many videogames, movies, comics, etc., women are the prime targets when it comes to being assaulted, victimized, and abducted. A video that was played in our Women Studies class, depicts almost to the “T” the ways women are portrayed in a negative way. In most videogames, women are shown to be worthless and not able to fend for themselves. A prime example of this is The Grand Theft Auto games. The women in this particular game are barley dressed in clothing, are very easily susceptible to being raped, and are constantly getting assaulted by the men. Instead of women being seen as role models and heroes, like Superman, Hulk, or Spiderman, they are seen to be damsels in distress.

They essentially are made to be vulnerable and powerless. In many films and plays, it is very seldom that women have leading roles or do not share their power in the film with a male actor. This is not something that has popped up in the past 5 to 10 years. Women have been living in the shadows of men for decades now. Women are becoming more aware of what is equal and how they should be treated, and they need to continue to fight for equality in all places of work, pleasure, and home.
