Rape Culture

In class, when we talked about the rape culture, it made me really think about how our society treats woman.  I have always had an issue with people saying that woman can “ask for it” by the way they dress or putting themselves into not so perfect situations, but it makes me even sicker when that woman has the courage to take her abuser to court and the plaintiff’s lawyer has the nerve to ask her questions about her past sexual relations to maybe try and get the jury to believe that it was just unsatisfying sex.

When we watched and talked a little bit about Pick Up Artists it made me immediately think of Barney from How I Met Your Mother.  Barney is a pick up “king” so he says.  He has many ridiculous ways of getting women to sleep with him, and it almost every case, they do.  This show kind of makes me made because it mentions in some of the episodes how many women he’s slept with, but it has never once said anything about him maybe having any sort of STD.  And with the amount of women that he has supposedly slept with, there would be little to none of a chance of him not contracting something and spreading it.

Rape Culture is seen in our society as something of a norm.  Making sexual jokes towards woman and girls and then when they deny you, call them a bitch, is something that would be common for me to hear about.  If someone hit on me and i denied their gesture and they called me a bitch, i probably wouldnt even think anything of it because of how common it is for women to experience this. It is a sad world we live in when women have to become use to men cat-calling them, and then being cussed at for not having the “correct” response towards the remark.
