Have you ever noticed or thought about how the media follows the trends and beliefs of society? The “Wonder Women” film that we watched in class depicted a good example of this that really stood out to me. Throughout the film it talked about the Wonder Woman comics, series, and her as a hero in general. Wonder Woman really stood up for feminism and showed women that they can be just as strong and independent as men. Although the show was put down at one point, she was still a role model for many women. I have always admired Wonder Woman because she has always been one of the only female characters that is not considered a “damsel in distress” but an actual superhero. There are the stereotypical heroes such as Batman, Superman, and Spiderman, but who do women have to look up to as a superhero that they can relate to? When Wonder Woman came around, they had exactly that; there was finally a woman superhero that was just as great. I think that was one reason that she really became popular and the comics took off. The film really captured the essence of Wonder Woman and who she was, and it really put it into perspective for me.
