The movie Half the Sky opened my eyes to many of the different issues, for women, around the world. Though, I knew of these issues, seeing them on the screen, and hearing the first hand experiences brought new light to subjects such as FGM, sex trafficking, and just the general morale of women across the globe. O can think of one specific instance that a young girl, top of her class, wanted to be a social worker when she grew up; it struck a chord with me, and made me smile. I thought to myself that I know that I have my reasons for wanting to go into social work, but I don’t think I would ever have the same dedication as this young girl does toward bringing help and hope to her society. It made me think about how much I can do as a social work, not only to help my community, but communities around the world. In all of these cases, the strengths that I saw in these women were astounding and truly remarkable and such a sense of hope came through their stories.
