In class we discussed how gender roles are implemented in our body language. The pictures we were of the passengers on the subway proved this very well. The men in the pictures were sitting in a relaxed, opened position. However, the women were sitting in confined, closed positions with their legs and arms crossed. The women took up significantly much less space. This could insinuate the common thought of males being dominant and powerful. I had never really paid attention to this suggestion and thought nothing of it until now. I have started to notice that when my friends and I go out to eat, my guy friends actually do tend to take up more space than the girls, especially if we sit in a booth. Its not something that they intentionally do, it just tends to happen.
