Super Women

Watching the documentary Super Women really gave me a lot to think about. I grew up reading comic books and though I had some Wonder Women comics, I was mostly interested in Zatanna. Zatanna was a superheroine who was not quite as iconic but really captured my childhood imagination. As I got older, I began to watch Star Trek: Voyager with my parents and very much admired Captain Janeway. I realize how lucky I was to have these strong female characters to look up to, growing up. The more I look around, the more I realize female characters have been boxed into flimsy tropes or purely objectified in the media. It has become a widespread problem and one that needs to be rectified. If we brought back characters along the same vein as Zatanna or Janeway, the media would be a much friendlier place for young girls.

I'm a sophomore in college, pursuing a creative writing degree. I was born with hydrocephalus and diagnosed with bipolar disorder in my late teens. This blog is just a place for me to document my journey and to share what I've learned along the way. I've come to find that the darkness is less scary when you're not walking through it alone.
