The other day I was talking to a friend about their job. He was telling me about he job duties and explained that there are “Boy jobs” and “girls jobs” that must be completed each day. The boy jobs include food prep, while the girls run the register and clean. The company he works for has a pretty good ratio of male and female employees. I thought about our class discussion on gender roles. I thought it was an interesting tactic on the company’s part for defining the gender roles at their workplace. It made me wonder how often this happens at other jobs. Where I work, the boys are usually the ones who have to work in the back with the grease, fryers and heavy cleaning. The girls are the ones working on the front dealing with customers.
