If Women Ran Hip Hop-Aya de leon

I really like this poem because of how it shows the green side of  Hip-Hop if society gave women a chance. 85% of Hip Hop incorpartes some kind of violent or sexual behavior that repels music lovers from wanting to even give it a chance. Hip-Hop is supposed to bring communities together with its poetry, not degrade other parts of the town or stating that women are nothing but “Hoes and Bitches”. If man been destroying this art ,well shit, why not give women a chance too. Aya de Leon poem shows that if women had a chance to show their also capable skills “rhyming to the flow”, there would be a tremendous outcome because women do not stress on robbing, killing, or sexing. And if a person were to listen to the females rappers that are making in the industry, they only rap about sexual encounters because the feel like with nothing else being, they would not have a career. Quite frankly, I love hearing a woman rap because it shows that she is holding her head up in this male-dominated art and I love it even more when a woman doesn’t have to rap about her vagina being “the wettest” or “the best around town” but about real things that occur from time to time.

Pop Culture Gone Wild

This article is good because how true Jessica Valenti “Pop Culture Gone Wild” points out how sex is being dished around like samples at Target. In today’s times we can not watch a simple video with out some implication of sex,Nicki Minaj’s “Superbass” displaying her girating on a man’s lap or Ciara’s “Ride it” which implies her freaking off her partner and how she is the best at, and all guiding the young girls in  wrong direction. At least Brittany Spears threw off the idea of a virgin because ,nowadays, it can barley be found unless it’s on Nick jr, which is complete innocence, or from Oprah, which you lost your innocence, but learning on how to be strong about it. I love the idea of a woman being sexy, but there is nothing more beautiful than a woman that can do that and know her worth.

Working it/ Norma Jean Almodovar

I really liked this story because of the background of it. It pisses me off that women are forced to choose to their body, even though she made the decision to be a call girl, because men, even though I am one, could not treat fairly the women they worked with. I am glad she did an expose’ on the LAPD because MOST people believe only righteous behavior  would go on in a police department when that was not the case. I have hear of the down side of prostitution , but actually hearing someone wanting to be in this field is a rarity for me. After reading this article, I did some research of the ought of women in the sex industry and one stripper said she loved it because of how the simple snap of a bra, she has control over all the men in the room. This article is great because it did not depict a sad women battling the life of the streets as usual, but an empowerment like no before her previous lifestyle.

Women’s work inside and outside of the home

It is funny that i read this article because in my house it is all flip-floppy in stereotypical terms. This article gives all these estimates and assumptions that this life of house work is done by women alone (well a little percentage to us men). IN MY HOUSE,the kids ,mainly the oldest, do the work around the house, males being the cleanest out of the catergory. My mother o0nly cooks, wash clothes, and provides 100% of the supervision over the house, while my father works, pay bills, and at the same time, will clean and demand a clean house no matter who does the chore. Now when it comes to paid services (work) I do notice difference between how genders are treated, and even though it is completely wrong, men do get the most money, the best jobs, and if your not a white female, then your going to have a hell of a time for real finding a job.

Don’t give up on your day off/Heidi Bruggine

Heidi Bruggine is being interviewed by a reporter on the idea of  “femals can work and take care of the home at the same time. There are pros and cons about her philosphy on a working woman.

A woman is perfectly able to work and take care of the home ,yes this is true. The pros of this idea is that with this being done extra income is being brought to the house, less stress put on the husband , or counterpart you share your life with, and the children get the idea of a strong woman. But where I come with a disagreemnt with Heidi Bruggine’s theory is her paragraph “Kids ,of working mothers ,were tying their own shoes up”. If anything, your downing the mothers by saying that because of their presence, the kid will take longer to mature, which is not true. The way she worded the idea it sounds to me that the only reason that theses kids are maturing faster is because they were abandoned  by their mothers, or just taught very fast and had to practice on their on time ,thats all.

The Buisness of Being Born

Unsanitary, dangerous, disgusting and uncessary was the thought that I had of home birthing because of my of until wathcing “The Business of being born ” This documentary was about the Pros a home births or Clinic births from a midwife. A midwife is a healthcare professional that is trained specifically in the labor and birthing processes during female’s pregnancy (a human of course).Midwives have neem delvering births for cenuturies ,without the high technology that we have today, but with smoothing motivational conversation, a hot towel and water and the allowance of time.

The critics of the type of method , the cons, are saying that it is unsafe for a home pregancy is something going wrong during the pregancy , as of loss of mass amounts of  blood, a person may not be able to rush the patient to the hospital fast enough . They believe that the midwives should leave it up to the docters and their techonolgy ,becaue of the low-risk of injury to mother, child , or both. These vary reason is why I believed that a birth should have be tooken place at a more professional facitlity. But as he same as the Doctors have thier reason for ” against”, the Midwives have their reason “for” . The Midwives side of the field believes that a doctor will not aftually bond with the patient, just  in and out situations. And because of these in out sitautions, the birthing process of babies is rushed, quickly injection of numbing medicine and female hormones, there is a higher risk of non- needed C-section (the cutting of the lower abmdomen to recieve the baby). The midwives believe that through vaginal birth ,both chemically (because of the horomes that are released when delivering a child) and phsycially ( because the mother feels a sense of  indepence for delivering an actual child.

AFTER WATCHING THIS FILM, I say I never would believe that i would have so much positivism to say about this birthing at home process and the usage of Midwives.Watching this film eduacted me on how cheaper it is , hospital pregnancy’s ranging from 8-10,000 dollars, while home pregnancies with full attention of a midwife and her ‘little, but important” supplies,3,000 – 5,000 dollars, the less pain because the midwives are not trying to force the procedure, just go with the flow techniques and deep breathing, and the determination of making sure that the baby is delivery nice and healthy bonding moment between the mother and the child should have.

Even though I would most likely in the future try and have my wife in the hospital,I could be easily persuaded to having a home pregnancy  if my wife decided to use that option. I do however beleive that there should be an increase in Mid-wife  delivery because they  actually try and connect to the women for a easy smooth delivery

What We Do for Love/ Rose Weitz

I cannot even lie to you all, I love hair on a woman. I love when i see a beautiful black woman with natural well kept hair. Now when i say well kept, I mean its flat ironed with a BAD ASS wrap with a hint of luster to it, or she decides to wear her hair curly and notice that the curls are boucing as if God hisself pluked them, or even if a woman decides to go “The Natural” look, I Love it when they pin it up in a sort of mohawk fashion. And ohhh Lord don’t get me started on women who decided to go for that “FUNKY” look, meaning with a hint of red ,or shaved on the side with the rest of the hair hanging…I LOVE HAIR. My friends tell me that I have a tendency to find a woman more attractive if they got “GOOD HAIR”,meaning long and wavy. And I can not tell a lie…this is true, and I don’t mean it to be in a shallow-hal way, its just kinda a sub-concious thing. I’m glad that this author is talking about my favorite subject because i never knew how much a woman puts into her hair for a man… I just know…I LOVE IT.

Romance Sweet Love by Bell Hooks

Whoa! this passage was intense for both genders on the playing field. As a male, i was slightly offended by how Bell Hooks said that “Men are led by their penis , seduced by erotic desire, they often end up in relationships with partners with whom they share no common interests of values”. this is statement sis not true to every man out in the world; the men that bell hooks stereotype  is exactly what it is A STEREOTYPE. This passage had me angry till mu progessor explained that Bell Hooks is from a different time era and maybe the men form her time were like the ones in this passage. Also, i never realized how much women sacrificed to be where they are today. Women who could have en the “Top Dog”, but put those plans behind to start their life with their loved one(s).

This passage had me angry until my professor explained the situation with Bell Hooks and we had a class discussion on the sacrifices that women make , which in turn, turned out to be a great little reading.

Virtual Gender by Judy Wajcman

I think that out of all the readings that we have had to to read in class, this ranks # 2 (“When I was Growing Up” by Nellie Wong leading with 1st place) because I can see the good and bad in virtual gender transformation.

I feel like the doctor was on good roll with helping these women by means of a fake character. These women felt “Finally, I have someone to talk with actual great life changing adivice”.The part that I disagree with is that when they do find out that you are no the ideal character you are portraying AND YOU GAINED THEIR FULL TRUST, things can get catastrophic.

When I Was Growing Up/Nellie Wong

This poem really hit home for me becuase i can completly understand what she is going throufh. I am Black , Cherokee , and Sioux, but at the same time I am darkskin, which if you know the stero type, indians are usually light skin.

I use to wish that my skin was just a little bit light so that people would believe me. I have the high cheek bones, Prominent nose, and the so called ” GOOD HAIR”, but I still had doubts of my heritage from people. I use to think that I was ugly than my lighter counterparts because I was so dark. I use to say “Man, I could never get a girl like that ,because who would want to be with someone as dark as me”?

It took many years for me to build the confidnce to the world ” I Do not give a damn about your opinon” and I thank God that he blessed me with such strength to say that.
